Ormiston Six Villages got talent!

Posted on: 5th July 2016

Juliette Feest
Talented Year 8 student Juliette Feest was one of the 10 winning entries composed for the Fanfare competition run by the Royal Opera House and was the second year running that Ormiston Six Villages Academy had entered.

Juliette and her chaperone visited the Royal Opera House which included backstage and front of house tours.  The main focus of the visit was to observe and hear her piece begin to be orchestrated, with professional composter/arranger Duncan Chapman conducting her piece for the very first time.

Juliette said: “Visiting the Royal Opera House was really stunning. It was incredible to see the instruments and hear the skills of the musicians in the orchestra. I composed the piece for 15 instruments and am now in regular contact with Duncan via email to develop my fanfare further. I’m really looking forward to returning to the Royal Opera House to hear my fanfare being recorded.”

Juliette’s fanfare was recorded as part of the Royal Opera House 2015/16 season to usher the audience back to their seats during the interval for various operas and ballets. In May, Juliette was lucky enough to return to the Royal Opera House to watch a performance of the Royal Ballet and hear her fanfare performed to the audience.

All of the students involved in this fantastic composition project learnt a great deal about fanfares, by listening to a variety of fanfares and using music software to record musical ideas, layering sounds and ideas together.

Watch and listen to Juliette’s composed piece on YouTube.
